VOLUNTEER TESTIMONIALS

“My mission trip to Haiti was heartwarming, I experienced joy working with the OR team dedicated to provide excellent surgical care regardless of the challenge; joy in working hard and seeing hope, relief and happiness in the eyes of my people then falling into bed exhausted but surely excitated to do it again the next day; joy in being served by the very people we went to serve and experiencing their incredible gratitude; joy in making new friends knowing this experience changed my life while I can't wait for the following one.”

Josie Desmarais,

ARNP

“My trip to Haiti with the CBSF mission was an eye opening experience. There was a great need and I felt very privileged to be a part of the team. I had the priviledge of working with the surgical team who operated in the OR at the Austrian Community Hospital in Haiti. Unfortunately, our supplies were limited but we made do with what we had to help the patients in need. I am looking forward to returning this year to do my part.”

Marjorie Del Pratt,

Certified Surgical First Assistant

It was so much more than a medical missions trip for me. This was personal. On my first trip I traveled to Haiti energetic and ready to get to work. Little did I know that Haiti also had a plan. She rewarded me with more than I could ever imagine... For a long time it had been my dream to go on a medical mission as a nurse to locations with a need. Where the people cannot afford medical care. What better place to give back than this country that gave me my parents, my roots, the flavors that I love, the music that moves me, the culture and upbringing that made me who I am today? My dream came true with CBSF.

I expected and looked forward to work hard. However, I didn't expect the long hours nor the amounts of patients nor the heat nor the sweat or the unsettling feeling that no matter how many hundreds of patients we saw; there were many more who needed us.  My heart broke for the people. Sometimes we can take so much for granted. Not only did I have the privilege to meet a multitude of patients, I also got to know my interdisciplinary team. I was exposed to and even got to help in diverse professions of the medical world and it was surprisingly quite a learning opportunity.  Before long, I felt like my team and I were truly brother and sister as we supported the Haitian people and each other, as we worked together and as we bonded with one another.  Needless to say these trips exceeded my expectations. I returned home with a brain full of images of the beauty of the Haitian people and scenery. I also returned with a deeper love and responsibility for this darling pearl of the Antilles :)
